In the last 10 months since the start of 2010, there have been 35 new major condominium projects opened in the Bangkok city center with a total of 8 898 units, so that is a massive amount of brand new Bangkok condos opened in 2010. Of course in addition to these major Bangkok condominium projects there have of course been a number of lesser projects. These are mainly done by smaller independent Bangkok property developers and although some these Bangkok condominium buildings end up being of good quality, most do not, so for the purpose of this blog we have overlooked these smaller Bangkok condominium buildings.
On the whole the best Bangkok condominiums in terms of quality, location, amenities, facilities, design, fittings and maintenance are developed by many of the Bangkok property developers listed on the SET (Stock Exchange of Thailand). In this article we will concentrate on the best new condominiums developed in the Sathorn area and Bangkok.
Starting over the river, there has been a wave of brand new condos for rent in Krungthonburi and Wong Wian Yai areas of Bangkok next to the 2 new BTS stations opened in May 2009. Examples of these have been The Hive Taksin, Q House Krungthonburi and Villa Sathorn. As well as smaller condos like The Citrine Wong Wian Yai, My Condo Wong Wian Yai and The Ideo Krungthonburi.
However hear we will concentrate on Villa Sathorn, which is a high-rise Bangkok condominium with over 40 storey’s, housing over 600 units with breathtaking views of the Bangkok city center, the Chaophraya river and the surrounding areas. In fact with very few high-rise buildings located close to the Villa Sathorn condo, it seems that almost all the units have access to spectacular far reaching views.

Villa Sathorn has a swimming pool, gymnasium and large raised garden area and jogging track and of course houses the usual secure car parking facilities associated with modern Bangkok condominiums. With Studios, 1 bedrooms and 2 bedrooms, Villa Sathorn covers a large part of the Bangkok property market. Perhaps though the best part of Villa Sathorn in the location, only 50m from the Krungthonburi BTS station.

Most expats in Bangkok are familiar with Ekamai, Sukhumvit Soi 63, and probably know someone living in a condo or apartment in Ekamai. However how many people have visited the area recently, and seen the development that has occurred in the area?
For years expats have been familiar with the Thonglor district, Sukhumvit soi 55 has become popular and well known for offering a good quality high-end lifestyle to both middle-class Thai’s and expats alike. Luxury condos in Thonglor are commonplace, and good quality service apartments in Thonglor are very popular with short-term contract workers. And of course with many Japanese restaurants and bars, Thonglor has become a favourite with Japanese expats.
However Ekamai, has in contrast been waiting in the wings, and was always destined to be the next district to be developed. With its own Ekamai BTS station, links to Petchburi Road, many sub sois including Thonglor and Phrakanong Road and already boasting quite a few trendy bars, cafes and restaurants Ekamai has always been well placed to be developed.
Located in Mid-Sukhumvit, Ekamai is an easy commute to any of the offices along Sukhumvit and Asoke. In fact if one lives in a condo in Ekamai, they can quite comfortably make it in to Siam square in approximately 20mins.
In the last few years Ekamai has witnessed the arrival of several quality and modern condos that have complimented the rise of trendy outlets such as The Horizon in Ekamai, the California Wow on Sukhumvit Soi 63, the Bangkok Mediplex, and of course even more practically the Big C Ekamai, which houses a supermarket, cafes and an Index furniture shop.
Three of the most high-end luxury Bangkok condos in Ekamai, are Nusasiri, The Address 42 and Avenue 61.
Nusasiri Grand Condo Ekamai has a rare quality in actually being linked to a BTS Sky Train station. So that residents of the Nusasiri Grand Condo in Ekamai, can actually leave their condo and board the BTS sky train without having to be exposed to the elements. This is particularly useful in the wet season when the rain can be heavy.

Just around the corner from Nusasiri Grand Condo is The Address 42, located on the same soi Sukhumvit Soi 42 as Nusasiri Grand Condo. This Bangkok condo within 350m of Ekamai BTS station makes it a simple 5mins walk along a pleasant quiet soi to the train.

Both The Address 42 and Nusasiri Grand Condo have been opened in the last 2 years, but a condo in Ekamai district that has been opened a while longer, but was a condominium in Bangkok that set many new standards for the construction and design of future Bangkok condos, was Avenue 61, located in Sukhumvit soi 61, this beautiful low-rise condominium, still looks as good today as it did when it first opened over 5 years ago.

Often condos and apartments in large cities situated near the riverside often offer the residents premium living and come at premium price. In Bangkok, condos on the Chaophraya River offer residents views of the River if Kings.
In recent years there has been a surge to build big beautiful Chao phraya apartments and condos. With developers seemingly keen to outdo each other in the use of the land, the design of the Bangkok condominium buildings built on the edge of the Chaophraya have become some of the most extravagant and impressive in Bangkok.
One of the most extravagant Chao phraya condominium developments opened in recent years is The Chatrium:

With units in The Chatrium larger than most new modern Bangkok condos constructed in the last 5 years. The Chatrium is a Grade A condominium development with each and every unit getting clear unblocked views of the Chao Phraya river.

With a massive range of facilities The Chatrium can almost feel like a self contained town on the side of the Chao Phraya River. Facilities in this extravagant Bangkok condominium complex range from large swimming pools, gymnasiums and gardens, to tennis courts, shops and cafes.
With units on the large size, they are also more expensive to rent than many Sukhumvit and Sathorn condos, but actually work out about the same price or even cheaper per sqm. However with such a fantastic range of facilities, plus Chaophraya River views and Grade A finishing, the price will mainly seem justified.
On the opposite side of the Chao Phraya River is a condominium development by Major Development, who have built such well known Bangkok condos such as The Hampton, The Fullerton, The Manhattan Chidlom, and The Wind Sukhumvit 23.

The Watermark Chao Phraya is possibly the most extravagant Chao Phraya condominium development to date, with a list of facilities as long as any Bangkok condominium development. Some highlights feature tennis courts, volley ball courts, Infinity swimming pools, squash court, gymnasium, landscaped gardens, moon pool and waterfall.

Again with the Watermark containing such large units at Grade A standard, prices and rental prices are also at a premium. For example a 2 bedroom condos at this Chao Phraya development would rent at 55 000 Baht/month. But with clear river views, as many facilities as an Amusement Park and top class finishes all round it makes for luxurious living.
But perhaps you have not got THB 40 000++ to spend to rent a Bangkok condo, or to rent on the ChaoPhraya. There are then some less expensive alternatives that still offer the terrific Chao Phraya River views.

Supalai River Place like The Chatrium and The Watermark is within easy access of a BTS station. This allows easy access to Bangkok’s CBD and even Siam Square can be reached in under 30 mins.
If you are living in The Watermark or Supalai River Place then Krungthonburi BTS station would be he easiest and fastest BTS station to get to. With less than a 5 minute drive from either The Watermark or Supalai River Place to Krung Thonburi BTS station.
If you live in The Chatrium the easiest and fastest way to got to the BTS is by Saphan Taksin BTS station or Surasak BTS station, depending on which way you travel to the station.

One other excellent riverside condominium development is the LPN Chao Phraya, or Lumpini Chao Phraya, this excellent Bangkok condo development is one of Lumpini Developments best buildings and Studio condos can be rented for 11 000 Baht/month with great views of the Chao Phraya River.
